3rd - 6th April 2008 - University of Exeter
Dear Colleague
Weekend School at University of Exeter. 3 - 6 April 2008.
For our 49th year we will be back at Exeter (NOT Nottingham as it said in last year’s brochure) where we
have had some very good times and we would like you to come and take part in yet another great
experience.
You will, of course, get the 13 CPD hours but coupled with those you will, once again, enjoy a really varied
and comprehensive programme with something for everyone.
All this is set out in the rest of this flyer. Please look at it and come and join us in what will, I am sure, benefit all of you personally and your Authorities also.
Once again there is a very diverse set of sessions covering most subjects that have been requested and
proved popular over the past few years, but also including the latest relevant topics. There should be
enough choice to please everyone, in fact in most sessions there are four alternatives.
Some of you will remember the University from our previous visits. It is set on a fine campus overlooking
Exeter and the Devon countryside and has a new residential building, close to the main lecture theatre
and dining hall, which has over 400 double ensuite rooms and means that you will not need to scale the
steep hill on the campus (“coronary hill”) unless you have a penchant for serious exercise!
The University has done us proud in the past years we have been there and I am sure it will prove very
popular in 2008 and that it will be a great few days during which you will be able to relax and enjoy the
company of friends and colleagues from all over the country as well as hear many speakers. So do come
and join us please.
There will be the usual receptions hosted by the Chairman on the Thursday evening for those of you who
are with us for the first time, so that you can get to know people and have any questions you might have
answered. After dinner there is also a get together with him for the Trainee Solicitors attending.
We have said before and the same is true next year that the Weekend School is not only a very cost
effective way indeed of meeting your CPD needs but it also provides real opportunities for networking with
colleagues and making good friends. It is great value, very informative and you can have a great time as
well.
A separate letter is being sent to all members of the BSM SIG about the Business Support Managers
Seminar. If you have a colleague who is not a member of the SIG but who would be interested in that
seminar or if you know of any Local Government Solicitor or Barrister who has not received this
information please can you let them have a copy of this or ask them to contact Linda.
Finally a message to all Trainee Solicitors. It is still not too late to enlist for the residential elements of the
Core Modules or Electives of the PSC, which are being run by the College of Law in conjunction with the
School. So please get in touch with us as soon as possible.
We very much look forward to seeing you there and hope that as many of you as possible will support us.
Best wishes
Dudley Lewis and Linda Walker
