The Future of SLG & ACSeS

As some of you may be aware, over many years there has been talk of SLG and ACSeS joining together to form a new organisation to provide a ‘single voice’ on local authority governance and legal issues. Over the last year discussions between the two organisations have progressed in a positive and progressive way and there is now a firm proposal to create one new organisation to represent law and governance officers in local government (including Police, Fire, Waste, Transport and equivalent Local Authorities).

The creation of a new organisation will build on the strengths of both SLG and ACSeS and its purpose will include: producing and sharing best practice, professional opinion and guidance; providing authoritative views and responses to consultation and inquiry from central government, the Local Government Association, press and other bodies; promoting matters of professional interest, conduct and good local governance; providing training and professional development for the organisation’s members; and representing, promoting and supporting the role and interests of the organisation’s members.

We need your views on the developing arrangements for the new organisation. Please see the attached proposals and complete the on-line survey. Your views are important – please get involved.
