Solicitors in Local Government Limited is a professional
association which represents the 4,000 local government
solicitors and trainees in England and Wales.
If you are employed in Local Government and are a member
of the Law Society you are a member of SLG. You should be
receiving information, which is circulated either nationally
by the National Executive Committee (NEC) or locally by
your regional Branch of the Group.
However, from 2006 you will need to 'Opt-in' to
the Group so please take the opportunity to register your
interest to continue to be a member. To register click here.
SLG, formerly the Local Government Group (LGG) is a limited
company. It is separate from but recognised by The Law Society.
The National Executive Committee (NEC) is made up of Officers,
Branch representatives, trainees and council members that
meet regularly to discuss the best ways to represent and
tackle the issues affecting local government solicitors
today.
There is also nine regional Branches who provide training,
hold seminars and events and help to organise Special Interest
Groups (SIGs) in your area that concentrate on practice
issues.
The Group also has a very successful training arm, LGG
Training.
The NEC is tasked with promoting, representing and supporting
all local government solicitors. It concentrates on both professional
and practice issues, providing guidance, responding to consultation
papers, collaborating with external organisations on a variety
of projects, promoting the work of local government solicitors
through international visits and tackling and advising on
policy and regulatory issues.
