Kingston has a reputation for excellent children and adult care services and education. As a qualified, flexible, enthusiastic and dedicated solicitor, barrister or ILEX Fellow with at least 1 year relevant PQE you will naturally be drawn to this high profile post, providing legal advice to a first rate “front line” service. Further training will be provided to develop your existing knowledge and skills but a keen interest and desire to make a career within local government is required

Based in the Litigation and Community & Education Services Team, within the Legal Services Department, you will work closely with the Principal Social Services Solicitor and a part time social services lawyer. Whilst in the main you will deal with social services matters you should have an interest and willingness to deal occasionally with education issues.

You will need to be flexible and proactive in your advice to members and officers at all levels. You should have excellent communication skills and first rate professional legal strengths, including being an experienced child care advocate. Maturity and sensitivity to the needs of the service users is also essential. You must be able to prioritise your workload, working to tight deadlines and as part of a team.

Due to this post having access to children and/or vulnerable adults, candidates will be required to undertake a Criminal Record Check. The possession of a criminal record will not necessarily prevent an applicant from obtaining this post, as all cases are judged individually according to the nature of the role and information provided.
